As the Obama administration tackles the issue of re-training America’s workforce, it is clear that the old methods just won’t do. We need to new new technology to ensure that training is created in real-time, tracking and interactivity is provided and reports and documentation is guaranteed. An LMS will do the trick.

This just in:

According to Bersin & Associates,

Of the top 18 learning processes that drive greatest business impact, the development of a strong learning culture tops the list. The study discusses this topic in detail and lists 50 key elements of a high-impact learning culture.

In the face of tremendous demand for integrated talent management, the integration of learning with performance management and the re-centralization of learning operations are now essential best practices for business impact.

Of the 750-plus organizations studied, 80 were characterized as particularly effective learning organizations. These exemplary, high-impact organizations are primarily in the banking and finance, business services, telecommunications, technology, and insurance industries. Segments that lag in learning maturity include transportation, media and entertainment, manufacturing, and state and local governments.

Money is important but not the ultimate determinant in achieving business impact. The research clearly found that learning effectiveness and efficiency do not directly correlate to budget or spending per learner. Rather, organizations with average or even below-average budgets can generate two- to three-times greater return through more rigorous organization design, governance, and operations.

The disciplines and strategies for high-impact corporate learning have changed. Today’s modern training organizations must go far beyond instructional design and delivery and focus instead on building expertise in information architecture, strategic competencies, content management, organizational culture, and end-to-end talent management.

Just where this thing ends is anyones guess but the US Patent Office has dealt a severe blow to Blackboard’s already shaky patent claims. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in late March took “non-final” action that deemed all of Blackboard’s 44 patents invalid.

In case you were not plugged in, Blackboard and Canadian e-learning software company Desire2Learn have been slugging at it since Blackboard was granted patents (some say dubiously). It still remains to be seen what the jury in Texas will do as this case is by no means over.

eLeaP™ e-Learning Systems offers insights into
Compliance & Industrial training myths.

Louisville, KY August 1, 2007 — How important is it to train
your employees about their obligations under employment discrimination,
harassment and OSHA or industrial safety laws? Consider these
statistics: for fiscal year (FY) 2005, the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission (EEOC) received over 75,000 complaints
of employment discrimination and recovered more than $270
million in back wages for the complaining employees through
settlements, mediation, and other administrative resolutions.
Employees alleged in these claims all forms of employment
discrimination (race, sex, including harassment, national
origin, religion, age, and disability) involving such issues
as hiring, termination, promotion, and leaves. Also consider
this: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “a
total of 4.2 million nonfatal injuries and illnesses occurred
in private industry workplaces during 2005″. These cases
lead to significant loss of productivity, earnings and actual
monetary penalties for employers. Can you afford NOT to take
proactive action to prevent these risks or minimize your exposure?

According to the ASTD “training can be the difference”
between your organization ending up as one of the above mentioned
statistics. Your employees have to be trained in your particular
industry’s safety, compliance and workplace procedures policies.
There is a direct correlation between the amount of training
your employees receive and the extent of workplace discrimination
suits, injuries or compensation claims that you will encounter.

According to Don Weobong, President of Telania eLeaP™
Systems, “training in policies and procedures is not
just a nice-to-do activity. Being proactive in your training
and e-learning programs enables your organization to avoid
unpleasant situations like law suits and employment law liability,
but more importantly, training and performance improvement
gives you the extra edge your need over the competition.”

“I remember a story of a friend of mine who had just
gotten cited by OSHA after an employee lost both arms in an
industrial accident. As bad as this gets, this company CEO
knew that he needed to train his people but just did not think
it important enough to do immediately. He kept procrastinating.”

eLeaP™
e-Learning Management Systems (LMS) helps all organizations
regardless of size or technical expertise to deliver timely,
trackable, online employee
training that is affordable, available 24/7 and easy to
maintain. Learning Management Systems can be terribly expensive,
very complex and confusing. That is why the eLeaP e-learning
(LMS) solution uses simple, intuitive wizards to help you
create, deploy, track and manage all your e-learning and training.
Don’t get caught up in “bells and whistles” when
what you really need is an e-learning solution that is robust,
secure and easy to use.

Other features to look for in LMS’s include SCORM compliance.
SCORM allows LMS solutions to track different courses and
enable interoperability with other systems.

“Evaluate Learning Management Solutions based on your
needs – not some consultant’s idea of what you need. Does
this system allow secure access? Does the LMS have a good
uptime record? Will you be able to easily update courses and
trainings? How about generating quizzes and completion reports?
Learning Management Systems can be overwhelming with all kinds
of features that you will never use. Learn to ignore the hype
and evaluate the e-learning solution based on what you want
to accomplish,” said Don Weobong.
